We are now seeing a growth in businesses working outside of the UK in Europe and are seeing other European countries setting up a UK base. We can help and aid in the structure for the UK and can help those UK Companies structure themselves correctly in Europe. We would be happy to meet with you at either our London Office or Taunton Office to discuss your specific situation.

We have a strong relationship with France and are able to advise on various expat issues such as residency status, foreign property tax issues, non-resident Directors tax treatment issues etc. We have a team of dedicated business and tax advisers who are English speaking and work alongside us to enable the compliance of the two countries to be correct. Our advisers are mainly in the South West of France covering the departments of the Dordogne, Lot et Garonne and the Gironde. However, we also have advisers situated in Paris. All our advisers are able to deal with you remotely.

Adrian Larpent - Managing Director

Adrian advises expats in relation to business and taxation structures for those who are non-resident in the UK, but still have Corporate or property interests in the UK. He reviews Corporate structures, personal Directors taxes and high net worth clients, to confirm tax is being paid in the correct tax jurisdiction, as well as reviewing the best form of profit extraction.

He advises on individuals who leave the UK permanently or for those who are returning back to the UK. Adrian also acts for non-domiciles.

Laura Morley - French tax compliance and administration

Laura Morley - French tax compliance specialist

Laura has lived with her family in France for 10+ years. She began the adventure in the Charente area of France but relocated to the Charente Maritime and the coast in 2006. In the UK, she was a primary school teacher and upon moving to France studied and gained a diploma with honours to Teach English as a Foreign Language (TEFL).

As well as giving English lessons to French individuals, she had her own retail enterprise and spent 4 years in a Chartered Accountancy firm as head of the foreign section, completing over 200 income tax declarations annually and dealing with all administrative issues encountered by the UK expatriate in France.

Local Taxes: She has studied local tax impositions and verification of the French Tax Foncière and Tax d’Habitation in order to check that the tax impositions are based on realistic information and requesting recalculation when appropriate.

Business Setup: She gives help and advice on grants and financial help available for business set up and personal situations with the CAF (social security and family allowance organisation in France). She helps people to understand, register and run their business under the micro regime and auto entrepreneur regime and help deal with the social organisations such as RSI and URSSAF.

Sworn Translations: Laura is also sworn translator via the TRIBUNAL DE GRANDE INSTANCE de SAINTES and has recently been awarded accreditation to complete and certify Capital gains declarations.

Tax Reimbursement: Laura deals with obtaining reimbursement of tax paid twice for clients that relocate to France from the UK or other European countries and dealing with pension forecasts and other administrative issues involving the relocation from one country to another.

Tim Hughes - Solicitor & Avocat Communautaire

Tim Hughes

Tim Hughes is an English solicitor. After practising law in England for 11 years, Tim moved to Lyon and registered as a lawyer in France in 2005. Tim advises both businesses and individuals in relation to French law. For individuals, his main areas of work are French property and succession law/Will planning. For businesses, Tim advises on setting up and operating in France, including employment law issues.

Tim has a French wife and three children

Tim is dedicated to developing and strengthening links between the UK and France and does so by heading up the Lyon Bar’s international group regarding relations with the UK. He is also the Honorary President of FIBA – the Franco-British International Business Association, based in Lyon.

Gerry Bartholomew – Financial Adviser to expatriates

Gerry has been involved in finance for 25 years - originally as a business development manager for SAAB UK, then AUDI UK. He worked with a large financial institution in London where he gained his qualifications and at the age of 45 he and his wife decided to pursue a career as an IFA in Cyprus. In 2013 he set up a French side of his business, where he now has his own client portfolio. He now spends time in both Cyprus and France. He is registered as an advisor in Cyprus and France, but is also able to work throughout the EU as an advisor.

Paul Roberts - Wealth Management and Financial Adviser to expats

Paul Roberts

Paul is from the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire and studied Business Economics at Cardiff University. He began his career with Chase Manhattan Investment Bank in London before emigrating to Barcelona following “Black Monday”. He built up and sold a successful teaching and translation business in the 1990’s and continued his financial career working in the Private Banking Sector in Spain. He completed his Series 7 US Stock Exchange Licensing exams whilst working for Merrill Lynch. Paul was a client of the Spectrum IFA Group before joining us as an Adviser in 2000.

Paul became a member of the European Financial Planning Association in 2014.
